About Us

Mahabodhi Dhammaduta Vihara Meditation Retreat Centre, Bengaluru- Mahabodhi Dhammaduta Vihara - Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education is ideally located 27 kms away from Bengaluru City railway station in Narasipura village near Alur in North Bengaluru, away from the noise and buzz of Bengaluru city. The centre has facilities of meditation halls, meditation pagoda with individual meditation rooms, living rooms (double sharing), dining facilities and garden with mango grows for walking meditation. The courses are offered totally free of cost. The land was offered by Maha Upasaka Shir Chaitanya Raghunath ji in memory of his late father Shri Anjanappa and late mother Jyamma on the occasion of 80th birthday of Most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita in 2001.

At present there are:
1. Puja and Meditation hall- used for chanting and group meditation sitting.
2. Teacher's Kuti- for monk course teacher.
3. Dhammavinaya Building- consisting of 24 beautiful double sharing rooms with attached toilet for meditators to stay and meditate during the retreat.
4. Bodhi Rasmi Pagoda (the Pagoda of Radiance of Enlightenment)- built on the cremation spot of Most Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita. The Pagoda consists of 54 individual meditation rooms built in the style of Shwedagon Pagoda with 3 floors. It also contains the sacred relics of the Buddha and Chief Disciples at the top.
5. Bodhi Prakar Mantapa- Sacred Bodhi trees from Holy Bodhgaya.
6. Dhamma Vaddhani Sima (The place where Dhamma in progress) was established in 2015 by 10 Venerable Monks from Myanmar and monks from India.
7. There are also Dormitory, Dining and Kitchen,
8. A lotus pond around the Buddha statue,
9. Statue of baby prince Siddhartha,
10.Mahaparinibbana statues and Beautiful serene garden with various trees and mango grow.

ROUTE DETAILS to Meditation Center

By the Government bus from Majestic:
If you take bus from Majestic Kempegowda Bus Station there are many buses to Makali Village. From there hire an Auto riksha to Narasipura Village. Buses from Majestic to Makali are 258C, 255A, 258CC, 258A, 258M.You can also take buses that go toward Nelamangala or any govt. buses that go to the same direction on Tumkur highway. Make sure you get down at the bus stop before Himalaya Wellness. From there you can get on to Makali buses. Direct Buses to Narasipura Village (very few buses are there)

By own the vehicle:
If you come by own vehicle from Bengaluru city, take Tumkur Road (Bengaluru- Mumbai Highway), and take fly over and cross the Toll Gate at Parle Biscuit Factory. After few meters take exit to service road and keep going till Himalaya Wellness Company at Makali Village. Few meters after Himalaya Wellness take 'U' turn through underpass, after 200 mts take the first left on Huskur Road towards Golden Palm Hotel & Spa and crossing this hotel continue to TATA Value Homes, APMC yard, cross small railway over bridge, 200 mts then take Right turn towards Matthalli Village, crossing Matthalli village come to Narasipura Village and look for Mahabodhi Meditation Center sign board.

From Airport 50 kms:
Take the airport road to Bengaluru City and take the left turn below Hebbala flyover to come on Outer Ring road, continue till Goraguntepalaya Traffic Signal (Taj Vivanta). At traffic signal take right to be on Mumbai Highway and take fly over, cross the Toll Gate at Parle Biscuit Factory. After few meters take exit to service road and keep going till Himalaya Wellness Company at Makali Village. Code Of Discipline For Meditation Course

This code of discipline is prepared for the maximum benefit of participants in a practical way.
1.The participant will have to stay on for the full duration of the course
2.The participants will work seriously as per the instructions. If you are not serious, not only you waste your time but also you start disturbing others.
3.The Participants will undertake three refuges in the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha
4.The Participants will observe 10 precepts
> Abstention from killing
> Abstention from stealing
> Abstention from all sexual activities
> Abstention from telling lies
> Abstention from all intoxicants
> Abstention from taking food after 12 noon
> Abstention from sensual amusements, dance, songs, music etc
> Abstention from bodily decoration, scents, etc.
> Abstention from using high and luxurious beds and seats
> Abstention from using money, silver/gold

5. Acceptance of the teacher and the teaching: For the period of the course the participant must surrender completely to the Teacher and the teachings, instructions, rules, code of discipline and course timetable. This surrender should be with understanding, not with any blind faith. Such confidence in the Teacher is essential for the speedy understanding of Dhamma and progress.
6. Rites, rituals and other meditations: For the period of the course it is absolutely essential that all rites and rituals, worshiping deities, yogic practices etc should be strictly suspended.
7. Silence: For getting maximum benefit of the course, silence must be strictly observed. However, participants can speak only with the teacher and responsible monk or manager for any needs concerning accommodation, food, etc. Even gestures, written notes, sign language etc are prohibited. Don't discuss even Dhamma and meditation matters.
8. Valuables: Please don't bring any valuables. If you bring any valuables, please deposit them in the office before the course begins and collect at the end of the course. This is also a precept of the course, i.e. not to keep any money, or gold etc.
9. Don't use radio/transistor, tape, audio players, Mobile phones, etc. Deposit them in the office before the course begins.
10. Smoking and chewing tobacco are strictly not allowed during the course.
11. Keep the premises clean and use respectfully all the things available.
12. Please be five minutes earlier at the meditation hall and for meditation and chanting.
13. Outside contacts are prohibited. Don't use mobile phones or talk with outside people. For any needs only contact the in-charge monk or manager.
14. No writing or reading materials, books or anything should be brought. If you have brought them please don't use them.
15. Don't use cameras till the end of the course. However, you can take pictures on the last day, which will be informed to you.
16. There is absolutely no charge for this course as it is conducted by the generous donations of other people. However, at the end of the course you may donate any amount to the Mahabodhi Meditation Center which runs meditation retreats.
17. Please bear in the mind that it is meditation course, following the life of simplicity and meditation. If you don't understand certain disciplinary rules please get clarified. The accommodation, food and facilities are simple. If you feel any discomfort remember about renunciation, the way the Buddha himself spent his life in forests, under trees with just minimal needs. Feel happy that you have got this opportunity.
